Standardised mobile phone chargers for Europe PDF Print E-mail

If you have regularly find yourself with a flat mobile phone battery and the wrong charger, your life will soon be made easier. 

The top mobile telephone suppliers have agreed to back an EU-wide harmonisation of mobile phone phone chargers. The agreement by Nokia, Sony Ericsson and other industry majors will mean phones compatible with standard charging devices will be available in Europe from next year.

Ofcom confirms changes to 0870 call charges PDF Print E-mail

OfcomThe new charging structure - which will come into effect on 1 August 2009 - will give consumers a much clearer idea of how much it costs to call these numbers.

0870 numbers are used by many businesses and organisations to provide a single non geographic number.  However, consumers are often charged more for calling these numbers than they would if they called a 'geographic rate' (01, 02 or 03) number. And because they cost more, businesses and organisations are able to take a cut of the call charges - a practice known as revenue sharing.

However, the new rules will encourage communication providers to stop charging higher prices for calls to 0870 numbers from fixed lines and mobiles than calls to 'geographic rate' numbers.They will also be encouraged to include 0870 calls in call packages on the same basis as geographic calls.

RyanAir Allows Mobiles on Planes PDF Print E-mail

RyanAir, in conjuction with O2, has announced that they are rolling out new technology to allow passengers to use their own mobile phones in-flight. They have already installed the technology in 20 of their aircraft, and are planning on rolling it out to their entire fleet over the next 18 months.
